Dear Maniacs, I hope you enjoy getting to know Maniac reader member Maria Jenkins.
Where are you from?
Where do you live?
What do you do?
Resource Management at Emory University library. Basically, I maintain the library catalog, and order and receive books and current periodicals.
Who inspired your love for reading and how were you inspired?
No one really. My mom and grandmother used to go to these yard sales every weekend and I would see these books on sale for a penny. One day, I asked my mom if she could buy me a book? She said yes. I was 13 or 14, maybe younger. The first books I remember reading outside of school was Anne of Green Gables. It was the whole series for maybe a $1. I loved it. So every time I went with them, I would buy books. Even romance books! Didn’t know what I was reading. Eventually, as I matured I was no longer interested in reading about white characters so I stopped reading for a couple of years. That is until I saw an article in People magazine about Beverly Jenkins’s first novel and I saw these beautiful brown people on the cover. I haven’t stopped reading since.
What is it about reading that you most enjoy? For example, do you love getting lost in the story world? Or perhaps you like to learn about other cultures, places, history?
Ha ha, all of those things!
What are your top three favorite fiction genres?
Sci fi / paranormal
What are you reading now?
Invested by Iris Bollings
Henry’s Pia (Spirit Mates) by E J Brock
Lauren’s Barbarian by Ruby Dixon
Where do you most love to read?
I love to read on the sofa with my favorite blanket.
The Fun Five
Formal Wear, or Jeans and Sneakers?
Definitely jeans and wedge heels.
Early Bird or Night Owl?
Early Bird and my friends know this. They always tell me to take a nap before going out. When my friends come over for a visit at my house, I’ve been known to leave, telling them to lock up when they leave because I’m going to bed.
Plan It or Wing It?
Plan it! One of my favorite things and a true life saver is “The Happy Planner” from Amazon. Especially now that Kera’s social life is more exciting than my own.
Comedies or Dramas?
Both and tear jerkers; I love a good book or movie that gives me a good cry.
What’s your favorite season?
